What is Kinetika?

Kinetika is a competition that culminates in an exhibition showcase of entries which have been selected for inclusion and fabrication.  Kinetika celebrates beauty and innovation through kinetic art and design.

Kinetika weaves together:

  • the kinetic theme
  • collaboration between the engineering industry and designers/creators/artists
  • a public indoor/outdoor exhibition with works for purchase

Kinetika has four categories.

Most categories will result in selected works being fabricated by either the designer or engineering firms based in Taranaki with the exception of the Great Ideas category which is purely design focussed.

A panel of judges will issue awards and prizes over the range of categories.

Kinetic should be interpreted to include works or concepts for works that move due to natural forces or mechanical devices. These can include works that are powered by the sun/light, water/rain, air/wind or by human motion or electricity (utilising standard household electrical connections).

“Designer”, “Artist” or “You” is defined as anyone or any group/team, who designs, invents, engineers or plans a work for the kinetika competition in accordance with the category criteria.
