Kinetika - Bringing artists and engineers together to give life to kinetic art and vision

About Us

kinetika™ has been created by the Taranaki Arts Community Trust (TACT) working in conjunction with a group of committed Taranaki engineering companies/organisations including Transfield Worley, ITL Engineering and the Engineering Taranaki Consortium.

TACT - TACT works to encourage wider access to the rich and diverse artistic talent within the Taranaki region and through this to build the economic viability of artists. In addition to the kinetika festival, TACT provides support to visual artists through the Real TArt Gallery in New Plymouth which remains one of the leading community galleries within New Zealand and supports local musicians through the Limelite project which includes the prolific Singer Songwriters programme. International Kinetic artist – Len Lye, was so impressed by the innovative nature of Taranaki’s engineering companies, that he bequeathed his entire collection to New Plymouth, in the hope that many of the designs which, at the time, were unable to be realised, would eventually be constructed as new materials technology allowed. Today a number of Len Lye’s kinetic masterpieces have been successfully constructed and are available for viewing in New Plymouth and a number of other cities, and Taranaki’s engineering companies remain widely regarded for their innovation and inventiveness with a diversity of materials.
